You walk and the city tells you its story. menumentos is a museum audio guide, but out on the street: you reach a place and hear exactly what happened there.

It’s free, it works offline with the city pack and it speaks five languages. It starts with Albacete and Madrid.

Your city, told in your ear

menumentos turns any walk into a guided tour. You walk; at every spot with a story, an audio clip tells you what you’re looking at and what happened there.

It’s like walking with a friend who knows their history. No brochures, no catalogue adjectives: details you can spot for yourself, like an inscription, a column or a coat of arms on a façade.

Two ways to explore, the same stories

Guided routes: just follow along

Pick a route and see its distance, duration and stops at a glance. Download it and follow it on the map.

When you reach each stop, the story starts on its own. Between stops, a short clip points you to the next one.

Free walk: go your own way

Switch on free walk and wander wherever you like. When you pass near a place with a story, the app lets you know.

A short taste plays, and you decide whether you want the full story.

One minute to hook you, five to keep you

Every place has two layers:

• The short take, about a minute long, plays on its own as you pass. It’s the hook.
• The full story, three to five minutes, is there when you want more: on screen or with your headphone button.

Everything you listen to is saved in your mementos, a keepsake of every walk.

Better than a guided tour: your pace

No start time, no group, no fixed itinerary. Start when you like, stop wherever you fancy and, if you leave a route halfway, pick it up another day.

And there are no numbers to key in, as with a museum audio guide: the story finds you when you get there.

Your location stays yours

Your exact location never leaves your phone. The app uses it on the device itself to know when you’re near a place: your position stays yours.

Albacete and Madrid, to begin with

In Albacete you’ll discover places like the Pasaje de Lodares, a 1925 shopping arcade inspired by Italy and protected since 1996 as a Bien de Interés Cultural, Spain’s highest heritage status, or the Cathedral of San Juan Bautista.

In Madrid, the historic heart: the Plaza Mayor, completed in 1619, the Plaza de la Villa and the area around the Royal Palace.

In your language

menumentos speaks Spanish, English, French, German and Simplified Chinese. And these aren’t word-for-word copies: each version explains what a visitor from abroad may not know and tells exactly the same story as the original.

Stories you can trust

Every story starts with research from official sources: tourism and heritage websites, museums, universities and archives.

Every fact is checked against those sources. And before it reaches your ears, a person from the team reads the text with the sources alongside and approves it.

Legends are told as what they are: they always begin with “legend has it”.

The city as its people tell it

Sign up and you can suggest a place, a route or an anecdote and pin it on the map. A menumentos partner reviews every contribution and approves the final text before it’s published. Once published, it plays at its spot, with your name on screen.

So alongside the history in the books, you hear the history of the people: the bar that’s gone, the neighbourhood cinema, what people remember about a square.
